Rugby Relief was established by Christian Stemmet (Director SpikedTurkey Rugby) and Joe Costello( Co-founder, Ireland)
Rugby Relief has been pioneered by St. Davids CBS, Artane,Dublin.
Organized and lead by Joe Costello( teacher and school rugby coach), they have undertaken the very first Rugby Relief tour on the 12th of August 2010. A party of twenty students and teachers traveled to Oudtshoorn in the Little Karoo, the Western Cape, South Africa
(George Hook Snr. and Joe Costello with students from St. Davids CBS)
This is a unique partnership involving South African and Irish companies who deliver Development Rugby Tours to South Africa and more importantly, aid in social and community regeneration.
We believe that more needed to be done so that not just the inbound tour to South Africa can benefit but also those underprivileged communities in the areas that will be visited. The area chosen for the next five years is the Little Karoo.
We encourage all our groups that travel to South Africa to become a part of Rugby Relief’s efforts in any way they would like. We have on the ground volunteers ensuring the equipment and funds reach the communities they are intended for. NO bureaucratic hold up for aid in these communities. Ultimately Rugby Relief will change their lives through RUGBY.
